Understanding the Prophets
The Prophets (Nevi'im) section contains books that chronicle Israel's history after Moses and include the writings of prophets who interpreted divine will to the people. These books offer a blend of historical narrative and prophetic revelation.
The Former Prophets
These books (Joshua, Judges, Samuel, and Kings) tell the story of the Israelites from their entry into the Promised Land until their exile to Babylon.
The Latter Prophets
These include the major prophetic works of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel, as well as the twelve minor prophets. They contain prophecies, warnings, and messages of hope during tumultuous periods in Israel's history.
Prophetic Vision
The prophets emphasized social justice, moral conduct, and faithfulness to God. They often criticized the existing power structures and called for a return to ethical principles.
